Mingo County is now in a state of emergency until further notice. That announcement came during an emergency session held by the Mingo County Commission Wednesday afternoon.
As part of the state of emergency, the Mingo County Courthouse and Mingo Memorial Annex Building will be closed to all non-essential business. Only members of the public with time-sensitive business will be allowed access to the offices located in either building.
Prior to gaining access to county offices, members of the public will be subjected to a health check. They will only be allowed access to the office in which they need to conduct their business and only two people at a time will be admitted to offices.
Emergency Services Basketball Battle, slated for Thursday, March 24, has been postponed. A new date will be announced later.
The Art of Recovery Pop-up Gallery 2, set for Tuesday, March 31, has been cancelled.
The Williamson Pepperoni Roll Festival scheduled for May 2 will now be held August 22.
The Williamson Field House is now closed to the public.
The Kermit All Class Reunion 2020 originally scheduled for May 23 has been rescheduled for September 5.
The Williamson Housing Authority has suspended all community activities, church services and Bible studies during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes events scheduled at the WHA Family Resource Center such as the TeleWorks USA Job Fair on March 26, the Nature Explorers Spring Camp set for March 30-April 3 and the Work At Home Hiring Event on April 15.
Mingo County Schools are closed until March 27. A further evaluation will be made at that time to determine if the closure will continue. All sporting events and other extra-curricular activities are canceled until further notice. Until further notice, local boards of education meetings will be held as scheduled.
All Head Start classes in Mingo County are closed effective Mon., March 16, until further notice.
All STOP Coalition meetings, statewide, are canceled until further notice.
The Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia today directed state courts to suspend all but emergency proceedings through April 10.
All Mingo County FRN meetings and Community Conversations are cancelled until further notice.
The Tug Valley Road Runners Club "Spring Cleaning 5K, 1-Mile Walk has been canceled. Fees can either be used for future races or be refunded.
The South Side Mall at Goody, Kentucky, has changed its hours of operation. According to owner Diann Hannah, operation hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice.
Gov. Jim Justice today issued an Executive Order, directing the West Virginia Department of Commerce and WorkForce West Virginia to provide unemployment benefits to those affected by COVID-19 to the maximum extent permitted under federal law.
Individuals who are separated from employment, have had their hours of employment reduced, or are prevented from working due to either a documented medical condition caused by COVID-19 or due to communicable disease control measures related to COVID-19 are eligible for these benefits.
The changes outlined in this order will remain in place throughout the duration of the Governor’s recent State of Emergency declaration related to COVID-19.
Per Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear's announcement earlier this week regarding bar and restaurant patronage across the state, mall and other South Williamson restaurants remained closed to in-person traffic. Food purchases remain available through drive-thru services and/or by order/takeout until further notice.
Per WV Governor Jim Justice's executive order, all restaurants and bars in the state will continue to service to carry-out, drive-thru, and delivery options until further notice. The Executive Order also mandated the closure of all casinos in WV.
Per Williamson Mayor Charlie Hatfield: City Hall will remain closed to the public until further notice. City employees will report to work but be unavailable to attend to customers in person. Employees will continue to perform all other clerical duties during this time. Payments for utility/garbage services can be transacted by mail, by dropping off payments to the lockbox in front of the office, or by paying by phone using a credit card.
The town of Gilbert is also closed to the public until further notice. Payments for utilities/garbage services can be made by mail, by phone with a credit card, or placed into drop-off boxes at the office.
The town of Delbarton is additionally closed town hall and its offices to the public until further notice. Payments for utilities/garbage services can be made by mail, by phone with a credit card, or placed into drop-off boxes at the office.

Per Hatfield McCoy Trail System officials: Hatfield McCoy Trails and trailhead facilities continue to be open and operating under normal hours. Trail permits for those who have had to cancel or postpone trips to the area are valid until Dec. 31, 2020.
Mingo County Schools will continue to deliver meals to students via buses to various bus stop and other locations M-F for as long as the schools closure remains in effect.
Appalachian Region Healthcare has restricted patient visitation at all its hospitals, effective immediately.
The Larry Joe Harless Center in Gilbert has closed the center to everyone except its members. The center's Spring Basketball League has been cancelled and its Hometown Cafe is closed to dine-in patrons but is still offering take-out service.
The Mingo County Library and its branches are closed through March 31, 2020. Board officials said they will reevaluate on Mar. 31 as to whether the library will reopen on April 1.
Beginning Monday, March 23, Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College will be extending its Spring Break by one week for students. Faculty will be on campus making preparations to offer their classes fully online beginning Monday, March 30, and information will be sent to students on how to access their classes.
