Two men were arrested last week after they allegedly first conspired and then attempted to cut and steal a copper wire from a substation near the golf course at Sprigg, police said.
According to police, on July 30 Keith Andrew Prater, 25, of Delbarton, drove Kenneth Lee Cyrus, 40, of Wharncliffe, to Sprigg so that Cyrus could cut and remove a copper wire belonging to AEP, valued at more than $2,500, from a substation at that location.
Police said a video taken by a witness showed Cyrus inside the fence, as well as later jumping a rear fence and going to a location where he was then “picked up by Prater,” who was driving a red Hyundai.
Officers subsequently performed a traffic stop on the car, at which time they found and removed bolt cutters and a section of grounding wire from the vehicle.
