For the 22nd consecutive year, Christmas was again made a little brighter Thursday evening for many of Mingo County’s elementary school-age students when 15 of them from each school came to the South Williamson, Kentucky, Walmart to take part in the Mingo County Deputy Association’s annual Shop with a Deputy event. MCSO Chief Field Deputy Joe Smith said because each successive year usually produces an increase in donations from Mingo County’s businesses and residents, each of this year’s 105 participating kids got to pick out and spend $100 on Christmas gifts. Smith said 39 kids participated in the first Shop with a Deputy in 1997, and at that initial event got to spend $50.
