Logean Deskins

Logean Deskins, 87, of Chattaroy, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky.

She was born at Thacker, June 17, 1931, the daughter of the late John Ford and Ruby Collins Ford.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Deskins; and four brothers and three sisters.

She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse with Williamson Memorial Hospital. Her nursing career spanned 55 years and was served entirely at Williamson Memorial. She was highly-respected by her colleagues for her professionalism, her dedication to the nursing profession and her impeccable work ethic. Her patients deeply appreciated her kindness, compassion and her sincere concern and attention. After retiring, she enjoyed spending her time with her daughter and son-in-law, with whom she had made her home for many years; her granddaughter; and her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter and only child, Debra “Dee” Kohari (Darrell), of Chattaroy; a granddaughter, Jennifer Maynard (Pete), of Chattaroy; two great-grandchildren, Jenna Wagoner and Jonathan Wagoner, both of Chattaroy; a brother, Frank Ford (Linda), of Ironton, Ohio; and three sisters, Doris Woods (Wes), Patricia Dempsey (Con) and Zelma Ingles (Marvin), all of Ohio.

A private graveside service will be held on Friday, Jan. 4, 2018. Logean will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. Arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson

Jeffrey Goff

Jeffrey Allan Goff, 57, of Williamson, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at his residence. 

He was born at Williamson, Nov. 13, 1961, the son of Esther Maynard Goff, of Hardy, Ky., and the late John Goff. 

He was a coal miner and a member of the Hardy Church of Christ.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Thomas.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Delores Francis Goff, of Williamson; two sons, Justin Goff (Cameron), of Lexington, Ky., and Jeffrey Goff II (Megan), of Lenore; two brothers, Gary Goff (Sheila), of Hardy, Ky., and Michael Goff (Cecilia), of Forest Hills, Ky.; one sister, Robin Caldwell (David), of Lavalette; his grandchildren, Jude Goff, Mackenzie Goff and Hudson Goff; his brother-in-law, Paul Thomas, of Hardy, Ky.; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Ky., with Ed Lockard and Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel of Belfry, Kentucky.

Mary McCoy

Mary Ann McCoy, 75, of Belfry, Ky., died Wednesday night, Dec. 26, 2018, at her residence.

She was born at Forest Hills, Ky., Feb. 6, 1943, the daughter of the late Trimble and Matilda Pinson Stanley.

She was a homemaker and was always taking care of everyone else. She was an employee of the Keebler Company for many years and was of the Christian Faith.

In addition to her parents, she  was preceded in death by nine siblings.

She is survived by her loving husband, Danny McCoy, of Belfry, Ky.; her daughter, Teresa Ann Ray (Randy), of Belfry, Ky.; her son, Larry McCoy (Sueann), of Belfry, Ky.; her sisters, Sarah Allred, of Paintsville, Ohio, and Alice Faye Hogland, of Lorain, Ohio; her loving grandchildren, Jordan McCoy, Daleaha McCoy and Madison Ray; her great-grandchild, Faith McCoy; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Ky., with Eric Hubbard officiating. Burial followed at the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky., with Charles McCoy, Trey Watson, Chris Hackney, Wesley Hall, Paul Preece Jr. and Mike Watson serving as pallbearers. Arrangements were under the direction of the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky.

Wilma Scalf

Wilma Lou Scalf, 79, of Turkey Creek, Ky., died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, at her residence.

She was born at Turkey Creek, Ky., July 25, 1939, the daughter of the late Roy and Hazel Varney Phillips.  

She was formerly employed by Hobbs Department Store and Canteens Department Store in Williamson and was also the housekeeping supervisor at the Sycamore Inn. She was a member of the Canada Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Scalf; and one sister, Naomi Muncy. 

She is survived by one son, Douglas Scalf (Angie), of Turkey Creek, Ky.; one daughter, Annette Moore (Rob), of Portsmouth, Ohio; one brother, Roy Phillips, of McMinnville, Ore.; one grandson, Cameron Scalf, of Turkey Creek, Ky.; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Ky., with Jack Maynard officiating. Burial followed at the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky., with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Arrangements were under the direction of the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky.

Beatrice Whitt

Beatrice Whitt, 85, of Foster, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, surrounded by her family, following a short illness.  

She was born at Dials Branch, Ransom, Ky., on Dec. 8, 1933, the daughter of the late Henry Akers and Nancy Smith Akers.

“Nana Bea” will be remembered as a strong-willed and independent lady. She loved nothing more than spending her free time quilting and sharing deep wisdom with her grandchildren. At 85 years of age, “Nana Bea’s” vibrant spirit and determination, kept her physically active until her final days. She enjoyed mowing the grass, yard work and tending to her garden and flowers. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and recently attended the Rock Creek Church of Christ at Foster.                                                                                                                  Her beautiful legacy will be eternally cherished in the lives of her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Whitt; her twin sister, Oma Ward; her sisters, Martha Justice, Plumer Carpenter, Myrtle Justice and Josephine Delong; and her brothers, Frank Akers and Willie Akers 

She is survived by her daughters, Kathy DeHart (Robbie), of Foster, and Kelly Lea Whitt-Cochran, of Indiana; her grandchildren, Seth M. DeHart, of Louisville, Ky., J. Dylan DeHart, of Foster, and Ashley Blackburn, of Williamson; her brother, Henry Akers; and her sisters, Dollie Hatfield and Susie Hatfield.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Kentucky. Burial followed at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky., with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Arrangements were under the direction of the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Kentucky.
