Tug Valley 35, Richwood 14

Tug Valley’s Tanner Kirk tries to gather his balance to make a move on a wet field Friday night. The Panthers cruised to a 35-14 win over Richwood.

Tug Valley’s Ethan Varney is a human swiss army knife. He accounted for four total touchdowns and snagged two interceptions on defense as he led the Panthers to a 34-15 win over Richwood.

Valley Strong has been the mantra all season long and in every way Varney exemplifies what it means to be just that.

Early in the game with 9:40 left in the first quarter, Varney threw a strike to the middle of the field finding Caleb May who went 30 yards for the first score of the game.

Richwood struck back with 6:14 left in the first quarter with a 15-yard touchdown run.

Immediately following the score, Richwood attempted an onside kick where they recovered giving them a second straight possession.

However, Varney and the Panther defense stood tall and brought pressure causing a bad throw leading to the first turnover of the game with 4:18 left in the first quarter.

The Varney interception gave the Panthers momentum as they marched down the field where Dustin Balentine capped off the drive with a one-yard TD run putting the Panthers up 14-7 with 10:25 to play in the second quarter.

Richwood needed a big play to tie the score, but the Tug Valley defense wasn’t having any of that. Varney came away with his second pick of the night with 8:33 left in the first half giving the Panthers a chance to stretch the lead going into the half.

After driving almost 80 yards, Varney and the offense found themselves inside the 10 where he linked up with Easton Davis for a seven-yard touchdown pass with 4:17 to play in the half.

The Panther defense struck again with 1:31 left in the half when they forced a fumble and recovered it.

With just eight seconds left in the half, Varney found May once again for a 20-yard TD making the score at the half 28-7 in favor of the Panthers.

Coming out of the half things slowed down, but with 1:36 left in the third quarter Varney scampered in from 20 yards for the score.

This sealed the deal for the Panthers as they look to face the Man Hillbillies next week.

Tug Valley  walked away with the 34-15 win over Richwood.
