Mingo County students will be returning to remote learning this week--Oct. 12 through Oct. 16--due to the county on Saturday, Oct. 10, having moved back into the orange category on the state's alert map.

School officials said those students in virtual learning will follow their at-home learning schedule as usual for the week.

Athletic activities will be limited to conditioning, with no games being played this week, officials said.

Health and school officials additionally announced on Saturday that a third staff member at Kermit PK-8, as well as two staff members at Lenore PK-8, have tested positive for COVID-19.

Health officials said these three latest confirmed cases will isolate, with all close contacts being asked to quarantine for the recommended time periods.

Students in only those affected classrooms will also quarantine in accordance with CDC guidelines, health officials noted, and the affected classrooms will be closed and cleaned during this time.

Unaffected classrooms will remain open due to the low risk of exposure per WV DHHR guidelines.

The Mingo County Health Department and the Mingo County Board of Education will continue to closely monitor the situations at both schools, health officials added.
