According to Mingo County Health Department Administrator Keith Blankenship, as of 4 p.m. Monday, May 18, to date 577 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Mingo County with 568 having been determined negative, three now having been confirmed positive (with one death), and six tests pending.

The Mingo County Board of Education will be conducting a regular meeting on Tuesday, May 19, at 5 p.m., at the Central Office. On-site attendance of this meeting will be limited to 25 participants.

The Mingo County Redevelopment Authority will be conducting a regular meeting via phone conference, Thursday, May 21, beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The Mingo County Board of Health has scheduled a Zoom/phone-in board meeting for 1 p.m., Thursday, May 21.

The Mingo County Commission meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, has been postponed until 9 a.m. Thursday, May 21. The meeting will be closed to the public but will be broadcast via live streaming on the commission’s Facebook page.

The Hatfield-McCoy Trail System will be reopening on a limited basis, Thursday, May 21. Proper safety guidelines must be met and maintained. Trail permits for those who have already had to cancel or postpone trips to the area remain valid until Dec. 31, 2020.

The Mingo County Library in Williamson is open on a limited basis. Call (304) 235-6029 about services being offered at this time. The branch libraries in Matewan, Kermit, Delbarton, and Gilbert remain closed but are scheduled to reopen June 1.

Per Matewan officials: Matewan Heritage Day and the Matewan Massacre Reenactment have been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12,  and will be combined with the Matewan Homecoming on that day.

Officials have postponed the grand reopening of the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. Officials said they will continue reassess the situation each month at their team meetings and attempt to reschedule another date.

Per Mingo County Schools: Five-day meal packages will be available on Wednesday, May 20, from noon to 1 p.m., at Burch PK-8, Dingess Elementary, Gilbert PK-8, Kermit PK-8, Lenore PK-8, Matewan PK-8, and Williamson PK-8. Pickup will be curbside and no one will be permitted to exit any vehicle on school property. Volunteers will go to each vehicle and ask for the total number of students to be served, at which time meals will be passed through the vehicle's window. Officials said the meal packages are for all Mingo County students.

Closures/cancellations and schedule changes:

The Beech Creek Community Park is now open to the public. Officials said the park is limited to 25 people at a time and that social distancing must be maintained.

Per Gov. Jim Justice's executive order issued Tuesday, April 21, West Virginia schools will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

The Mingo County Courthouse is open on a limited basis. Offices are staffed with skeletal crews and public access to the facility is for essential and time sensitive business only. Members of the public are asked to call specific offices prior to coming to the courthouse in person. Staff members will give callers instructions as to whether they should come in person or if the transactions can be conducted by other methods. The phone numbers for each of the offices are posted on the county Facebook page.

West Virginia Tax Commissioner Dale Steager has been directed by the governor to extend the West Virginia income tax filing and payment deadline until Wednesday, July 15, 2020, to correspond with the federal government’s recent tax filing extension to the same date.

The Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce (Coal House) remains closed to the public. The public can utilize the chamber's email, Facebook Messenger or text/call at (304)-920-7266 for questions or more information.

Appalachian Region Healthcare continues to restrict patient visitation at all its hospitals.

The Williamson Pepperoni Roll Festival will now be held August 22.

The Williamson Field House remains closed to the public.

The Kermit park shelter is closed until further notice. Anyone having already scheduled and paid for a party can receive a refund by calling (304) 393-3563. Officials said the public will be notified when the shelter is reopened. Walking in the park is still permitted provided social distancing is maintained.

The Kermit All Class Reunion 2020, originally scheduled for May 23, has been rescheduled for September 5.

The Williamson Housing Authority has suspended all community activities, church services and Bible studies.

All Head Start classes in Mingo County remain closed until further notice.

The operation hours for the South Side Mall at Goody, Kentucky, continue to be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice.

Bars and restaurants in Kentucky remain closed to in-person traffic. Food purchases remain available through drive-thru services and/or by order/takeout until further notice.

Williamson City Hall remains closed to the public until further notice. Payments for utility/garbage services can be transacted by mail, by dropping off payments to the lockbox in front of the office, or by paying by phone using a credit card.

The town of Gilbert is also closed to the public until further notice. Payments for utilities/garbage services can be made by mail, by phone with a credit card, or placed into drop-off boxes at the office.

The town of Delbarton also remains closed to the public until further notice. Payments for utilities/garbage services can be made by mail, by phone with a credit card, or placed into drop-off boxes at the office.

Kermit Town Hall remains closed to the public. Water and sewage bill payments can be paid either by mail or by placing them in a dropbox in front of the building.

The Larry Joe Harless Center in Gilbert remains closed to everyone except its members. The center's Hometown Cafe is closed to dine-in patrons but is still offering take-out service.
