Following a two-day election canvass — which included recounting more than 1,500 additional votes, there were no changes in any race announced on election night.
Incumbent Mingo County Prosecutor Duke Jewell managed to maintain his narrow lead over Republican challenger Brock Mounts. In a fact, Jewell was able to pick up a few extra votes and increase the margin of his victory from 12 votes to 16 votes.
The canvass began on Nov. 19 and stretched until midday Nov. 20, after concerns arose regarding the results of an early voting machine that had problems on election night. The 1,558 ballots cast on that machine were re-tabulated to ensure the accuracy of the original results.
