Family Resource Center hold grand opening

Mingo County Family Resource Network Executive Director Amy Hannah said she was invited to apply for a Family Resource Center grant in the spring. Hannah said she was pleasantly surprised at winning the award and has gone about establishing the center over the past few months including finding a location and person to head the project. Through an arrangement with the Williamson Parks and Recreation Board, the bathhouses at the former Williamson city pool were converted into spaces for both the FRC and the Wellspring Pregnancy Center. “This is a perfect location for us,” Hannah said during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Nov. 3. “Just a couple of blocks across the tracks you have public housing. Down the street you have a public elementary school and in the other direction you have a public college. Here, surrounded by a public park, we have the new Family Resource Center. It’s perfect.” Heather Wolford will be the on-site director of the center which will offer a variety of services including parenting skills and job training, violence and substance abuse prevention and child services such as literacy development and mental health/family counseling.
