Nearly four hours after it began in the former Tint’s Steakhouse restaurant building, the Kermit Volunteer Fire Department and three other fire departments finally managed to bring a massive fire under control. KVFD Chief Wilburn “Tomahawk” Preece said firefighters were dispatched to the unoccupied building, which is located just over the Mingo County line in Wayne County, at around 8 p. m. Monday evening. Preece said the cause of the fire appeared to be arson due to how quickly it spread as well as the fact that the building had no utilities connected. He said the WV Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate. Aside from the KVFD, the Inez, Warfield (Kentucky) and Dunlow VFDs also responded. There were no injuries, Preece said.
